A GLIMPSE INTO THE POWER OF THE TESTIMONY

Last weekend I traveled to the Northwestern part of the State of Washington to attend the Ft. Flagler Men’s advance. While the advance ran Friday through Sunday Morning I attended only the Saturday session. My wife Barbara who was traveling with me stayed in our motel room while I drove an hour or so north to attend the Men’s advance meetings.

Awaking at 4 am on Saturday morning Barbara received a download from the Lord concerning next July’s National FGBMFA Convention, I thought that what she saw in the spirit concerning our July Convention would be an encouragement to you, so I have included a portion of Barbara’s vision below in my April Presidents Newsletter. Here is Barbara’s vision.

“In the Spirit I saw the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – Hilton Lakes Executive Conference Center where our 8th National Convention will be held this July 3-5, 2014.

“In the vision I saw the presence of God moving from room to room within the Conference Center. It appeared as a cloud, or a vapor, and there was a sweet fragrance wafting through the atmosphere of the Hotel. I was aware that the cloud was filled with the power of His presence, and the glory of Jesus as it encompassed those attending the convention. It’s glory appeared to rest upon the convention attendees, the hotel workers, and even the other guests in the hotel.

The believers recognized that it was the presence of the Spirit of God, and but the others were only aware that something different happening, they apparently had   no idea what was transpiring. It was truly a ‘new’ work of God which was being birthed by the hunger and thirst among the attendees for more of Him. It was arising from the hearts of His people who were attending the Convention.

As I gazed on the Convention floor I sensed that the worship had entered into a whole new dimension, and was being accompanied and influenced of His Angelic hosts. The worship was so in tune with the Spirit of God, it appeared that the Spirit was flowing from one individual to the other – transforming the hearts and the lives of those who were seeking Him.

I thought this is the “latter rain” moving in our convention – a rain bringing a refreshing – a renewing- and birthing the impossible into the realm of the possible.

Faithfulness will be rewarded –
Obedience will bear much fruit &
The walk of LOVE among those attending the convention had turned the barren desert of many lives into a full bloom and revealed treasures they formerly could never imagine –
And it seemed the Lord said here it is… now walk in it!
And the Lord would say to his people don’t be moved by what is happening in the world around you, for I AM still the creator of all things, and nothing is too hard for Me, nothing is impossible for me! Keep moving deeper into Me in the spirit, and see miracles never experienced before, as My kingdom comes to the earth – under My direction.”

So I would say to you – prepare your hearts and your minds for ALL that God wants to reveal to us in this July’s meetings!!

Having shared my wife Barbara’s vision of the 2014 Convention above I now move on into my April Presidents Newsletter.

“So the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who has seen all the great works of the Lord which He had done for Israel”…… “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.” Judges 2, verses 7 & 10

The writer of the book of Judges connects the faithfulness of the Israelites in serving the Lord, to their remembering the great works that God had done for them in the past, and the great victory’s that God had given Joshua and his generation. When they remembered what God had done in the past, it inspired their faith to believe God to do those same things for them in the future. But when the Israelites neglected to tell the next generation the testimonies of all that God had done for them in the past, their faith began to falter, and they fell away from God and became dominated by the heathen nations that surrounded them

Testimonies were the foundation upon which the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship was conceived and birthed. It happened in the fall of 1951, Demos Shakarian was helping Oral Roberts set up a Los Angeles Evangelistic Campaign. One night as Demos and Oral sat in an all-night diner talking over coffee, Demos said to Oral, “I keep getting the feeling that the Lord is showing me something different.”

“What’s that Demos?”

“It’s a group – a group of men. Not exceptional men. Just average business people who know the Lord and love Him, but haven’t known just how to show it.”

“And what will this group do?”

“They will tell other men Oral. No theories. They tell what they’ve actually experienced of God to other men like themselves – men who might not believe what a preacher said,- even someone like you – but will listen to a plumber or a dentist or a salesman because they’re plumbers and dentists, and salesmen themselves.”

Our Fellowship was built upon men telling other men their testimony concerning the great things that God has done in their life. As we tell our stories of what God has done in our lives in the past, it inspires faith in those hearing the testimonies; faith that God will do the same thing for them that he has done for us. In the nearly forty years that I have been involved this Fellowship, I have seen the testimony of God in the lives of our men inspire faith in other men, faith that God to do the same thing for them’ that he did for the man who gave the testimony.

It is for that reason that every month I take the time to write a short testimony describing an experience that I have had with God, in the hope that it will inspire faith in the young men of the “Joshua Generation” to also do what I have done. These stories describe the works and wonders that God has done in my life in the past in the hope that it will inspire faith in the reader to do the same thing in the present. We call these “War Stories for the Joshua Generation”. Their purpose is to minister’s faith in the heart of those reading or hearing the War Stories. And that these young men will realize that God is no respecter of persons. He will do for you what he has done for me. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. These stories also remind me, of the great things that God has done in the past, and assure me that He will do again whenever He encounters faith to believe.

Men’s testimonies are the foundation upon which the Lord has built the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship.

Recently I was greatly moved by the testimony that John Fay, our FGBMFA National Director in the state of Massachusetts, gave in the “News from the Chapters Article” I emailed to you last Thursday, April 24th. John had no idea what the Lord was going to do through him when he went to the Hospital to sing to a lady whose kidneys had failed. He was just being obedient to what he sensed the Holy Spirit had told him to do… namely go to the Hospital and sing to the woman whose kidneys were failing. John’s obedience in following the Spirit of the Lord’s instructions, gave God a human body in which he could deliver His Holy Spirit, and work a healing miracle, that raised the woman off her death bed. It is a great testimony, a testimony that reached far beyond the borders of America, and inspired faith in men in as far away as Japan and Ireland and perhaps beyond. It is a testimony that should inspire all of us to follow that still small voice within us.

Bill Johnson, Pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California a church known across America for extraordinary healings and miracles’ says, “We in Redding have established a practice of beginning every one of our weekly staff meetings, and monthly board meetings with a time of recounting the testimonies of what God had done in the preceding days. At least half of the meeting time is devoted to sharing stories of the miraculous, which usually amounts to one to two hours of just testimonies. These stories include miracles of healing, deliverances, conversions, encounters and even how God is working in our children and restoring families and marriages. Testimonies keep us encouraged and aware, it is simply impossible to sit through an hour and a half of hearing how Heaven has been invading earth all over our city and the world and go away discouraged.”

And that is exactly what happened to men all over the world when they read the testimony of what God had done in a hospital in Maine, when John Fay at the direction of the Holy Spirit sang to a dying woman, a woman who’s Kidneys had failed, and unbeknownst to John she was being healed as he sang.

Bill Johnson goes on to offer the following advice elsewhere in his book entitled “Release the Power of Jesus,” “Experiencing God through what he has done in the past correctly positions us to experience God in what He is doing in the present. The more we come to know God experientially by responding to the invitations in His testimonies, the more we can become like Him. And the more we become like Him, the more we can do what He does and manifest His Nature and power to the world around us.”
